Funding will advance research on children’s health using data from the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes  (ECHO) program

With a new $3.69 million grant, the Research and Engagement for Action in Climate and Health (REACH) Center—which includes George Mason—is set to tackle the urgent intersection of climate change and public health in the nation’s capital.

Daniel Gartenberg became passionate about the study of sleep during his graduate studies at George Mason. He is now founder and CEO of SleepSpace and a scientific advisor to other companies in the sleep science field.

�������� scientists, nurses, and researchers in the College of Public Health have just entered the second cycle of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) program called Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO).

Mason psychology professor Tara Chaplin has been awarded a National Institutes of Health Independent Research Scientist Award for her research on understanding the role of parenting and emotional arousal in the development of substance use in adolescence.

With the grant,College of Public Health professor Y. Alicia Hong and an interdisciplinary team aim to improve caregiving skills, reduce social distress, and improve quality of life for caregivers. 

The George Mason College of Engineering and Computing statistics department and its Statistics Collaboration Core is working with Inova Health Care Services as part of a partnership called “iTHRIV.”

Faculty members Holly Matto, Padmanabhan Seshaiyer, Stephanie Carmack, and Nathalia Peixoto, and graduate student Matthew Scherbel, are working with Brightline Interactive to examine the effects of recovery cues, using virtual reality simulations, on neurophysiological regulation to prevent drug relapse.

�������� anticipates reporting more than $200 million in sponsored research expenditures for fiscal year 2020, which would be an all-time high for the university and shows significant progress toward the university’s strategic goal of $225 million by 2024.
