Students pursuing an MS in management through Mason鈥檚 School of Business usually spend four months getting work experience through internships at local companies. This year, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, administrators had to think creatively. So instead, they asked local businesses what they thought of hiring students to do remote 鈥渞esearchships.鈥

When Taurus Patterson was looking at colleges,聽海角社区聽struck him right away as a place that he could call a 鈥渟econd home.鈥
鈥淚 felt like I would be welcome,鈥 said Patterson, 18. 鈥淓veryone I met was so nice, and it didn鈥檛 seem forced. When I visited the campus, people just started talking to me, and it was so natural. I already felt like I belonged.鈥
Patterson is a member of Mason鈥檚聽Honors College, a聽University Scholar聽and a recipient of the Merten-Womble Scholarship. He says he鈥檚 looking forward to studying聽finance聽in the聽School of Business, and is considering a second major in聽public administration.
鈥淎 long time ago, I wanted to be president, and then I wanted to be a financial consultant,鈥 Patterson said. 鈥淩eally, I have a passion for both finance and politics, so I would like to be able to combine these interests.鈥
