As a film student at º£½ÇÉçÇø, Roberto Ferreira De Araujo wanted to celebrate diversity and highlight the full spectrum of experiences represented by the LGBTQ+ community. During his first semester at Mason in fall 2022, Ferreira De Araujo and two of his classmates created the Here and Queer Film Festival as a final project for a class.

Six graduate students from º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Department of Global and Community Health presented a four-pronged solution to address health care and homelessness among Washington, D.C., area women at the D.C. Public Health Case Challenge.

Mason graduate student Archana Vardhan was one of 20 students nationwide selected for a summer fellowship through the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs. Her area of expertise is the mental and physical health of postnatal mothers of color.

Mason’s Institute of Digital Innovation (IDIA) recently welcomed the inaugural cohort of Public-Private Partnership (P3) Faculty Fellows. The Fellows Program aims to spark research collaborations between the university and industry partners on impactful societal problems and deliver state-of-the-art digital solutions to the local, regional, or national economy.

Andrew Opitz first came to º£½ÇÉçÇø as a freshman over a decade ago. After taking a hiatus from school, he graduated from the Film and Video Studies (FAVS) Program in May 2023. Opitz’s film, Jazz, which he directed for his senior capstone, was a semi-finalist in the Student Academy Awards Alternative/Experimental category.

HNRS 360 The Silkroad and the Railroad is the kind of course that could only happen at Mason. With artists-in-residence Silkroad Ensemble as partners, 25 Honors College students from 17 majors are exploring cultures and histories, music and narratives, impacts and legacies of the Transcontinental Railroad.

Mason alum Alex Hussein (BS Information Systems and Operations Management ‘21), who is also known as @DC Spot, shares his recommendations for a few must-go-restaurants in local Fairfax. Alex is a food influencer with over 215,000 Instagram followers. His videos feature eateries throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.

º£½ÇÉçÇø anthropologist Jamie Clark and two undergraduate students spent part of the summer on an archaeological expedition in Sefunim Cave, Israel.  

Kimberly Montesflores Gonzalez already had a strong relationship with º£½ÇÉçÇø before she enrolled as a freshman this fall.

º£½ÇÉçÇø professor and alum Susan Howard created Go Nisha Go, an award-winning game that helps girls and young women in India navigate and negotiate life choices.
