This month, a new Northern Virginia International Soft-Landing Accelerator (NISA) program, designed to help start-ups from around the globe find guidance, connections, and lab or office spaces at no cost, was launched to help develop new technologies in life sciences.

TJ Master and Elizabeth Pyle, mentors with the Virginia Small Business Development Center’s (SBDC) Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP), are advising entrepreneurs in the Innovation District.

º£½ÇÉçÇø received $1 million from the National Science Foundation to establish a program providing hands-on nanofabrication training and education to people seeking a career change.

Beginning fall 2025, George Mason will host the Semiconductor Chip Fabrication and Nano-Characterization certificate program through the Virginia Alliance for Semiconductor Technology (VAST), a statewide consortium advancing microelectronics and nanotechnology training and research where George Mason serves as a founding member.

This summer, George Mason graduate students rolled up their sleeves in busy labs, learned their way around unfamiliar equipment, and even played a part in moving clinical trials forward, working with start-ups and biotech companies in the recently established Innovation District anchored by the university’s Science and Technology º£½ÇÉçÇø.

In partnership with Prince William County, º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Biomedical Research Laboratory is working to prevent outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases.

Thanks to a major investment from GO Virginia, Northern Virginia’s first Innovation District, led by º£½ÇÉçÇø and in partnership with Prince William County and the City of Manassas, is taking shape, laying the groundwork for growth in high-tech industry sectors like life sciences, aerospace, defense, and semiconductors.

The Governor’s School at Innovation Park, located at º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Science and Technology º£½ÇÉçÇø, holds a special distinction: It’s Virginia’s only academic-year Governor’s School located on a four-year college campus. That means that high school juniors and seniors spend part of each school day experiencing life as º£½ÇÉçÇø students. The Governor’s School at Innovation Park celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.
